YVR South Airfield Improvements

Vancouver Airport Authority is proposing to conduct improvements to the south airfield at Vancouver International Airport in Richmond, B.C. The project consists of pavement rehabilitation on several existing taxiways, widening taxiway intersections, extending a taxiway, upgrading airfield lighting and drainage improvements. The project will improve safety, improve operational efficiencies, and extend the service life of existing airfield infrastructure.

The Proposed Project

The project consists of improvements to airfield infrastructure including taxiways and the south runway at Vancouver International Airport. Much of the proposed work will involve maintenance of aging taxiway pavement and consists of asphalt milling/paving and replacement of existing concrete pavement structures. Several taxiway intersections will be widened to improve safety for aircraft maneuvering. A taxiway will be realigned and widened. In addition to the pavement improvements, the project will include upgrades to airfield electrical systems, runway lighting, taxiway lighting and drainage. Activities will include asphalt milling/paving, concrete removal/paving, soil excavation, installation of underground electrical ducts, replacement of airfield lighting and drainage improvements.

The project will require temporary closures of taxiways and nightly closure of the South Runway. The runway will be open during the daytime.
