New Dock Installation 242 Turtlehead Road

The proposed project

The proposed dock includes the following features:

  • Lower landing of an approximately 18 metre long pedestrian tram that is located mostly outside of the Port Authority's jurisdiction to provide access from the upland owner's residence to the fixed platform.
  • Approximately 15 square metre aluminum fixed platform (between the tram and gangway), with four aluminum legs that would be drilled into bedrock with stainless steel pins
  • Approximately 21 metre long aluminum gangway with staircase that connects to the concrete float.
  • Approximately 27 square metre (9 metre long by 3 metre wide) concrete that is moored in place by four 5000 pound precast concrete anchors.

All dock components would be fabricated off-site and delivered to the site by crane barge using a tugboat. Once on site, the crane barge would lower the fixed platform into place along the foreshore. Stainless steel pins would be drilled into the bedrock to facilitate the mounting of the platform's four legs. Following the installation of the platform, an approximately 21 metre aluminum gangway with a staircase would be positioned to connect the platform to the concrete dock. Once the anchors and chain are in position and tensioned, the gangway and staircase would then be mounted and placed on the concrete dock.

The pedestrian tram that is mostly outside of the Port Authority's jurisdiction would be installed prior to the in-water work. No pile driving is required for the Project.

Should the Project Permit be approved, construction would begin shortly thereafter and take approximately two weeks to complete. The proposed work will be conducted during regular construction hours.
