Demolition of Pat Bay 17 Building - Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. The Old Pat Bay 17(PB17) Hangar has been declared surplus to operations and is ready to be demolished as it has been replaced with a new Hangar and associated support structures and works to accommodate the new CH-148 Cyclone helicopters. The objective of the demolition project is to identify and remove hazardous building components, disconnect and cap utilities, deconstruct building, remove building foundations and grade soil and cap with gravel/asphalt. A description of the building follows: PB17 is comprised of a larger hangar area, maintenance shops, offices, storage rooms, etc. The original hangar portion of Building PB17, constructed in the 1940's, is a structural steel building with a footprint of approximately 2,265 square meters. In approximately 1989, an office addition was constructed on the northwest side of the hangar, with a main floor footprint of 1,400 m2 and an 840 m2 two-storey section. The addition is steel frame construction on a concrete slab foundation.
