Annacis Water Main No. 2 Scour Protection project

The proposed project

Metro Vancouver's Greater Vancouver Water District is proposing to place a blended rock apron for scour protection over the Annacis Main No. 2 within the Annacis Chanel of the Fraser River near New Westminster, B.C. Scour protection is required to cover exposed areas of the pipe and to repair inadequate scour protection placed in 2019. Project works are proposed to occur outside the navigation channel.

The Project will consist of placement of approximately 701 cubic metres of blended rock within an approximately 1,078 square metre footprint using a clamshell bucket. Approximately 480 cubic metres of material within an approximately 738 square metre footprint will overlap scour protection placed in 2019. The remainder will be placed on the riverbed. Scour protection will be placed between approximately -0.5 to -5.0 metres Geodetic Datum to a thickness of approximately 0.5 metres. A barge or scow will support these works. No dredging is proposed. No impacts to intertidal or upland areas are anticipated.

The Project is anticipated to take approximately 10 days to complete and is proposed to take place during the fisheries least risk window for the Project Area.
