Nicomen Dike upgrade - Skumulsph IR 16

The Phase III project is an extension to bank stabilization conducted in 2009 and 2015 (Phase I and Phase II works) for the Nicomen Island Improvement District (NIID).  The project is located adjacent to Wellington Bar, on the outside bend on the north bank of the Fraser River, and is partially within the Skumalasph No. 16 Indian Reserve boundary.  The "Project Area" includes the footprint of the temporary access Roads and spurs, and the haul route for materials alon Dyke Road from the NIID quarry.

The objective of the proposed project are to:

- Install armouring along approximately 830 m. of the north (right) bank of the secondary channel of the Fraser River mainstem to protect the bank from further erosion which could eventrually impact the stability of the Nicomen Dike; and

- Tie into existing bak stabilization downstream of the project to protect these works from being outflanked as the bank immediately upstream continues to erode and recede.

Indigenous Services Canada will be issuing access permits and timber removal permits to enable the project works..DFO and other Federal Departments may also have conduct on this project.
