Rocky Point Park Maintenance Dredging

The proposed project

The City of Port Moody is proposing to conduct maintenance dredging of up to 4,000 cubic metres of material within an area of 7,440 square meters at Rocky Point Park boat launch located at 2800 Murray Street, Port Moody. Maintenance dredging is required to maintain the navigational channel design depths of -1.0 metres Chart Datum and reduce risk to marine navigation. Similar maintenance dredging was conducted in 1992, 1998, 2004, 2010/11 and 2016, approximately every six years.

Dredging would be performed using a clamshell dredge or excavator from a barge-mounted derrick with dredged material to be loaded to an adjacent flat scow.

Sediment testing was conducted for suitability for disposal at sea and did not meet site-specific requirements (i,e., PBDE's or dioxins/furans) from Environment and Climate Change Canada. Dredge material will be disposed of at an upland-approved disposal site.

Dredging is proposed to occur between October 1 and February 28.
