Western Constance Cove Remediation Project - Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed the Western Constance Cove Remediation Project (WCCRP), on the east side of Esquimalt Harbour as part of their long-term strategy to remediate contaminated sediments in the Harbor, due to the historical industrial activities undertaken in the harbor. Various remediation projects have been undertaken, or are currently being undertaken, in Esquimalt Harbour as part of the remediation and risk management program. WCCRP is the latest project being planned under this program and is being undertaken under the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan.

Remediation is proposed to include dredging of contaminated sediment and debris, and placement of material over dredged areas. Ancillary activities will include processing of material to remove unexploded explosive ordnances and artifacts, passive dewatering of sediment, as well as offloading, transportation and disposal of sediment and debris. The area of contaminated sediment to be remediated encompasses approximately 17,100 square meters.
