Dredge pipe removals

Fraser River Pile and Dredge on behalf of Mainland Sand and Gravel are proposing to remove two, 660 millimeter diameter steel pipes that were used as part of the sand supply operations at the former Mainland Sand and Gravel Port Kells Sand Depot. The total length of the pipes are approximately 100 meters each. The upland sections of the pipes were removed as part of the site exit requirements in March 2021, with approximately 30 – 40 meters of each pipe remaining within port jurisdiction.

A workboat with an onboard winch will be used to access the tenure during high tide. The winch would be used to raise each section of pipe separately and place them onto pontoons to float them out of the area to an offsite storage location. The pipes are located on the surface of intertidal area and will not require excavation or dredging for removal. No vegetation will be removed during the work.

Work is anticipated to commence after the fisheries sensitive period and will take approximately 2-3 days to complete. All work will be undertaken during regular construction hours.
