N'Quatqua Watermain Extension and Phase 1 Subdivision

N'Quatqua First Nation want to loop the existing watermain along Hunter Jack Crescent to Grizzly Bear Drive. This watermain extension is aligned with Phase 1 of the community's preferred subdivision concept. This will provide the an opportunity the extend the road and create up to 9 new serviced lots, which the community is in great need for. As part of this project, the lot configuration will be reviewed and will include assessing the removal of the Hunter Jack Road cul-de-sac. In addition to designing the watermain and road extension, sanitary and storm servicing will also be reviewed.

A constructed spawning channel off of the Gates River is <30 m north of the project area. The spawning channel is a fish-bearing stream that may be impacted by the proposed works. However, the majority of the project will occur more than 30 m away from the spawning channel. Riparian vegetation clearing will be restricted to the minimum amount required to complete project works. Vegetation clearing is expected to include shrubs, grasses, deciduous and coniferous trees.

Vegetation Resources Inventory (VRI) indicates that the dominant vegetation in the project area is Douglas-fir of age class 6 (101-120 yrs), height class 4 (28.5-37.4 m), and crown closure class 7 (66-75%). Other vegetation present within the project area includes various grasses and shrub species.

As part of McElhanney's Design Report, an Archaeological Assessment was carried out by Antiquus Archaeological Consultants. The assessment identified two archaeological sites, EdRo-41 and EdRo-43, which are within the proposed subdivision concept area. As discussed with N'Quatqua, the watermain extension and proposed lots will be designed to avoid both sites so they are not disturbed.
