Dredging - Lafarge Richmond Cement Plant

The proposed project

Fraser River Pile & Dredge (GP) Inc. on behalf of Lafarge Canada Inc. is seeking a multi-year permit for dredging works in the waterlot fronting the Lafarge Richmond Cement Plant located at 7611 No. 9 Road, Richmond, BC. Dredging is required to re-establish the required depths to ensure continued safe navigation and access for barges and support vessels.

Dredging works will include dredging of up to 4,000 cubic metres per year within a 15,460 square metre dredge footprint. Dredging will remove accumulated sediment high spots within the water lot with a target dredge grade of -8 to -10 metres local low water. Dredging will be carried out using a marine spud derrick equipped with a clamshell bucket. Material will be loaded on a materials barge for disposal at sea under a valid Environment and Climate Change Canada Disposal at Sea permit, or placed upland for later reuse or disposal. Works are proposed to take four days per annual dredge event and will be carried out within the least risk window for the Fraser River. The work plan is the similar as previous maintenance dredging at this location. Dredging within the eastern half of the footprint was most recently conducted in March 2021 (as urgent works) and October 2018 under PER 18-170.
