South Shore Corridor Project - Extended Work Hours Request

The Proposed Project

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Infrastructure Delivery is proposing to carry out physical activities related to the approved Project Permit No. 2011-125-5: South Shore Corridor Project 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from January 4 and to July 4, 2021.

This amendment is being requested to enable construction during low traffic volumes to minimize traffic disruptions on Commissioner Street. The project components associated with this request include overhead and underground plant decommissioning and infrastructure installations, including the construction of extensive below ground utility services, such as water mains, sewer mains and roadway drainage. Electrical work, the installation of retaining walls and the placing of an asphalt pavement is also required.

The construction will primarily take place on the eastern half of the project location in the Commissioner Street corridor, north of the Canadian Pacific Rail tracks, between Slocan Street and Renfrew Street. Construction activities outside of regular hours would involve heavy machinery such as track excavators, rubber-tired backhoes, dump trucks and compaction equipment. Asphalt pavement saw cutting and hydro-vacing will also be required.

Shrouding is proposed to be implemented in the use of stationary equipment. Broadband backup alarm will be applied if warranted. Scheduling of certain activities (hydro-vacing) to minimize nighttime noise will be accommodated.
