Berth 1 Fender Replacement - Deltaport

GCT Canada Limited Partnership proposes to replace the existing 21 lower capacity Deltaport berth 1 fenders (6.60 metres long by 1.828 metres wide) with 22 new higher capacity fenders (5.2 metres long by 2.2 metres wide), which include two new fenders to be used in case of emergency. The purpose of the project is to allow the terminal to increase its flexibility to accommodate vessels up to 14,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU) in size as the current fender capacity at Berth 1 can only accommodate vessels up to 4,300 TEU in size. Throughput capacity at the terminal will remain unchanged following this project.

Following installation of the new fenders, the existing fenders will be removed and disposed of offsite. All work would be staged from the land site with no in-water work required. Work would occur over a four month period and take place during regular port authority construction hours (Monday to Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. excluding Sundays or statutory holidays) with the exception of one to three night shifts per week (8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.). Night shifts are proposed to accommodate existing terminal operations, tidal requirements and weather.
