World War II Hut Rehabilitation

Parks Canada is proposing to rehabilitate the World War II Hut which houses the main washroom facility at Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site. The washrooms are in poor condition and do not meet current accessibility and inclusivity standards.

Parks Canada plans to fully renovate the interior of the building with six new visitor washrooms, while the exterior of the building will undergo rehabilitation. The building upgrades will fulfill some secondary needs such as a water fountain and bottle filling station, a first aid room, and services to support the oTENTik program including a shower, and outdoor food prep and dishwashing space.

Parks Canada will complete a basic impact assessment to assess potential impacts to built heritage, terrestrial archaeology, cultural landscapes, and Species at Risk at the site. The impact assessment will incorporate standard and site-specific measures to avoid and minimize potential impacts to natural and cultural resources.
