Esson Lake Main dam and Side Dam Replacement

The project is a complete replacement of the Main Dam and rebuilding of the failed earthen side dam. The main work involves the complete demolition of the existing main dam, construction of a new dam in the same location and orientation. Secondary work involves building a new concrete side dam to replace the breached earth dam. Parks Canada owns the assets but not the associated or adjacent properties. Other works include clearing for laydown and project staging and construction of temporary cofferdams.

September 8, 2026 – Parks Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
