North Bay – Pile replacement project

The City of North Bay is proposing to replace 11 H-Piles that currently secure five strings of floats at the North Bay Waterfront Marina located on the eastern shores of Lake Nipissing.  The existing piles have become damaged and are not functioning as intended.

The old H-piles will be cut off below the lake bottom and removed. New H piles will be positioned in a similar orientation as the existing piles and installed by driving the pile into bedrock using pile-driving equipment. All work will occur in the nearshore environment with depths of 2 metres or less.

The project will utilize heavy equipment, including, but not limited to, a crane and/or excavator. Temporary works may include a laydown area in the parking lot of the marina and rock platforms on the gabion wall to support heavy equipment used for the removal and replacement of the piles. Environmental protection measures may include the use of cofferdams to isolate the piles, tree protections, and sediment and erosion control measures.
