New Nuclear at Wesleyville Project

Ontario Power Generation Inc. is proposing the construction of a new nuclear power plant in the Municipality of Port Hope, Ontario, within the traditional and treaty Territory of the Williams Treaties First Nations. As proposed, the New Nuclear at Wesleyville Project would provide up to 10,000 megawatts of new nuclear generating capacity and operate for 78 years. Several nuclear reactor technologies will be considered for the project. The project assessment and initial licence application review are being conducted in collaboration with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

February 12, 2026  — The public comment period on the summary of the Initial Project Description and the funding application period closed on February 11, 2026. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission are currently reviewing all comments received to prepare the summary of issues. IAAC will post the summary of issues at a later date.
