Rouge National Urban Park Cistern Decommissioning

Rouge National Urban Park is planning to decommission an unused open cistern for health and safety reasons and convert it to a snake hibernaculum. Eastern Milksnakes are known to overwinter in the rock wall foundation adjacent to the cistern and therefore the site is sensitive to construction activities. The cistern will be pumped and backfilled with stone to create habitat that will allow snakes to move throughout the structure. This project will be scheduled to avoid sensitive timing periods for snakes and other wildlife at the site.
