Port Burwell Maintenance Dredging

Maintenance dredging to be completed through propeller washing (sometimes referred to as 'agitation dredging') to provide safe navigation depth into Port Burwell harbour. The objective is to deepen the approach channel to -2.5 datum to enable safe navigation for vessels with a draft of 2 m through the approach channel to and from Port Burwell.

Propeller washing a channel through sand bars and accumulated sediment in the approach channel that are impeding safe navigation into and out of the harbour by the proponent and the local commercial fisher. The propeller washing mobilizes the material from the sand bar using the hydraulic energy developed from the vessel screws and distributes it over a wider area. Local lake forces further move the deposited materials over a broader area including beach deposition.
