Shorepine Bog Trail Revitalization

The Shorepine Bog Trail is an approximately 800 m loop boardwalk, originally constructed in 1986, that provides a short, immersive experience through a rare and sensitive coastal bog ecosystem in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Over time, the boardwalk has deteriorated, resulting in uneven surfaces, misaligned sections, abrupt elevation changes, and damaged treads. These conditions have reduced accessibility, and the trail no longer meets current accessibility standards. This project proposes to replace the existing boardwalk with a fully accessible structure elevated above the bog. Once completed, the upgraded Shorepine Bog Trail will provide a barrier-free opportunity for visitors to explore and appreciate this unique coastal environment. Parks Canada will complete a Basic Impact Assessment to assess the potential impacts of the project on ecological and cultural values and identify mitigation measures to avoid or minimize adverse impacts.
