Coldbrook Biodiversity Facility Water Control Structure Modifications, Coldbrook, Kings County, Nova Scotia

The proposed project involves the improvements to the concrete water control structure that supplies the Coldbrook Biodiversity Facility, a DFO – owned property in Coldbrook, Nova Scotia.

 

The project involves the improvements to the sluice gates, overflow spillway, and access walkway. The existing sluice gates will be disconnected for inspection; gate stem replaced; and manual actuators removed and replaced. The overflow spillway stop logs will be removed and replaced with new overflow gates and actuators. Trash racks with support frames to be installed up stream of sluice gates. The existing graded walkway with guardrail and chain link fencing to be dismantled and replaced. The silt and detritus accumulated upstream of the water control structure headwall will be removed to enable the installation of new gates and trash racks.

Notice of Intent to Make a Determination – Start of Public Comment Period

May 8, 2024 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada- Real Property, Safety and Security intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, DFO-RPSS is inviting public comments until June 8, 2024 respecting that determination.
