Small Modular Reactor Demonstration Project

Énergie NB Power is proposing the construction and operation of a small modular reactor located on the existing Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station property, in Point Lepreau, New Brunswick. As proposed, the Small Modular Reactor Demonstration Project would include a sodium-cooled fast reactor that would generate electricity to supply the electrical grid (100 to 150 megawatts of electricity).


Latest update

December 22, 2022 — The Minister of Environment and Climate Change has determined that the Small Modular Reactor Demonstration Project proposed by Énergie NB Power does not warrant designation under the Impact Assessment Act. The reasons for the Minister’s determination are provided in the Minister’s response.
