West Breakwater Wharf Repairs at the Halls Harbour Fisheries and Oceans Canada Small Craft Harbour, Kings County, Nova Scotia

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) proposes to repair two voids within the existing west breakwater wharf structure at Halls Harbour DFO-SCH, Kings County, Nova Scotia. Ballast and armourstone have spilled from the northern end of the structure and a previously encapsulated cribwork wharf within the current structure has settled and created a void space between its deteriorated concrete deck and the current concrete deck. The void area measures approximately 7 meters wide and 7.5 meters long with height varying from 1-2 meters. Timber fenders and wales on the existing wharf will be temporarily removed to gain access to the work area. A navigation light located at the northern end of the existing structure will be temporarily removed to facilitate the proposed work and replaced once the work is complete. Concrete walls will be installed to enclose the void areas which will then be filled with concrete to prevent further settlement. Armourstone will be removed on the northern end of the structure to facilitate the repairs and replaced to the original grade and footprint prior to project completion.
