West Point Dredge Zone Expansion and New Ocean Disposal Site

Dredging of the entrance channel at West Point Harbour is carried out multiple times annually under a Disposal at Sea Permit. The path of the entrance channel is naturally migrating towards the east, therefore, in order to ensure that the entrance channel footprint is captured within the approved dredge zone boundaries, the eastern boundary of the zone must be extended an additional 80m to the east. The currently approved disposal zone is also being impacted by the natural migration of sand at the site. The migrating sand is naturally infilling the disposal area, reducing the area available to dispose of dredge material. In order to address, DFO-SCH is proposing to relocate the ocean disposal zone to a site located further off shore to the east of the harbour.
