Watts Road Boundary Corridor Access - Prince Edward Island National Park

There is a wooden boardwalk at Watts Road which intersects the ecologically sensitive and protected wetland in the area and has historically provided access to PEI National Park's coastline to a small number of local pedestrians. The boardwalk infrastructure has reached the end of its lifecycle and is closed to access. The proposed removal of this infrastructure and natural regeneration of this area will preclude access to the coast via this route. There is a maintained Parks Canada boundary corridor that leads from Watts Road to another location on the coast that may be used as an access point. The end of this boundary corridor passes over a dune. In order to minimize dune trails (and impact on ecological integrity) that may be created by access, a section 50 m in length will be t-barred and roped to contain potential users to a single coastal access point.

Latest update

May 28, 2022 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Parks Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
