Franey Trail Redevelopment
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
Franey Trail has been impacted as a result of extreme weather in November, 2021 and requires redevelopment. The new trail will be comprised of three segments: Franey Low Loop (3617m); Franey North (5705m); and, Franey South (3537m), totalling approximately 12.9km. Franey Low Loop is offering pedestrian, mountain bike and snowshoe activities and includes features such as frequent natural grade reversals and trail outsloping, rock armoured dips, viewpoints and three bridges. Complete decommissioning of portions of the existing trail is included. Franey North is offering pedestrian, mountain bike and snowshoe activities and includes features such as frequent natural grade reversals and trail outsloping, rock armoured dips and two bridges. The existing trail in this section will be completely decommissioned, with the entire surface to be loosened to promote regrowth of natural vegetation. Franey South is offering pedestrian, mountain bike and snowshoe activities and includes features such as frequent natural grade reversals and trail outsloping, rock armoured dips and two bridges. Complete decommissioning of portions of the existing trail that will be rerouted with new construction in included.
