Halifax Very High Frequency Omni-directional Range (VOR) Replacement

NAV CANADA proposes to replace the existing Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR) navigation aid located at 3970 Old Guysborough Road, Enfield, NS. The purpose of the VOR is to provide navigational aid to aircraft operating in the Halifax, NS area. The existing VOR structure and equipment is being upgraded to provide an enhanced level of service to aircraft operators. Work will include removal of the existing structure and building, replacement of the electrical service, and installation of a new VOR counterpoise structure, equipment shelter, 32.5' monitor tower, and associated equipment/antennas/cabling.

NOTICE OF DETERMINATION

Halifax, NS – 16-06-2023 – Transport Canada has determined that the proposed project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Transport Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Transport Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
