Smith and Rhuland Shipyard Revitalization Project, Lunenburg, NS
Develop Nova Scotia is working on the historic Smith and Rhuland Shipyard on DNS' holdings on the Lunenburg waterfront. The project scope within the Transport Canada waterlot involves construction of a small boat marina and a small area of infilling.
The new small boat marina requires installation of seven new timber piles. A small area of infill is required to repair and normalise a new seawall edge. The infill involves the installation of a new sheet-steel-pile wall on the east side of the property near the existing Wharf A. The length of new sheet pile wall is 12.7 m and the area of new infill is approx. 32.3 m2. The new sheet pile wall will have concrete-filled closure blocks at each end.
In order to mitigate risks during construction environmental controls will be in keeping with all standard are procedures set out by DFO, as well as, provincial and federal standards and permits and will include silt fencing, fueling procedures for all on-site equipment, silt/debris booms and oil booms around all active work locations, spill response kits, and trained crews.
