Refrigeration Heat Recovery from Ice Plant- 12 Wing Shearwater

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which aims to install a heat recovery heat exchanger. There is no heat recovery on the refrigeration ice plant at the Shearwater Flyers Forum. Since the refrigeration system is located near the adjacent recreational centre, the project involves installation of a heat recovery heat exchanger using refrigeration heat rejection to preheat domestic hot water, Zamboni water, the under-slab heating system, and the adjacent recreational centre pool and domestic hot water, as well as ventilation heating. Adequate bypass is required so that the heat exchanger is inactive when there is no demand on the system.

July 7, 2022— The Department of National Defence issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
