Wharf Reconstruction at the Hampton Fisheries and Oceans Canada Small Craft Harbour, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) proposes to reconstruct a wharf and approach at Hampton DFO-SCH, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. The existing structures will be removed and replaced with a new timber cribwork structure. The new structure will have a total length of approximately 48.90 m and width varying from 6.1 m to 7.6 m, with an approximate footprint of 340 m2, all of which will be within the existing wharf footprint.

The existing gravel surface and existing fill material beneath will be removed. Existing armour stone slope protection adjoining the wharf approach will be removed as required to access the work area. Fill material and armour stone will be retained where possible for reinstatement at the end of the project. The harbour bottom will be excavated in the area of the proposed structure to access the area but will be restored to the existing elevation prior to project completion. Existing timber piles on the exterior of the existing structure and adjoining tie rods will be removed, as will any ladders, light poles, and wheel guards that may be affected by the proposed work.

Timber cribs will be installed at the base of the structure and longitudinal timbers will be built to an elevation of +11.5 m above chart datum. The interior of the structure will be filled with clear stone, ballast stone and the retained fill material. A concrete deck will be installed with a 2% slope and a 1.2 m high cast-in-place concrete seawall on the far end of the structure.
