Wharf Reconstruction at Camp Cove (Lower Argyle) Small Craft Harbour, Yarmouth County, NS

The wharf reconstruction project at Camp Cove Small Craft Harbour (SCH) will include the removing of the existing ell (402) and  stem (401) wharves as well as new scour protection surrounding the T-wharf (404).

The existing T-wharf (404) cribwork will remain and a 9 m transition ramp at a 5% slope will be built to connect the T-wharf (404) to the stem wharf (401). Scour protection will surround the T-wharf starting on the southeast side to the northwest side stopping at the end of the transition ramp. The existing stem wharf (401) timber cribwork with concrete deck will be completely removed. Silt and organics will be removed to reveal the top of existing rock mattress where 400 mm of thickness will be removed. This process will be duplicated in removing the existing ell wharf (402).

A new crib structure will be built so the ell wharf (402) can be connected to the stem wharf (401). The new timber cribwork for the ell will be approximately 63 m in length by approximately 8 m wide. The existing rock mattress will be used to support a new clear stone rock mattress measuring 400 mm beginning at a chart datum elevation of -2.85 m. Clear stone will be placed at a 1.5: 1 ratio and on the inland side, scour protection using precast concrete blocks measuring 3000 mm x 3000 mm chained together will be placed on the new rock mattress. The crib structure for the ell wharf (402) will be built to an elevation of +6.03 m on the lower slope end of the 300 mm thick concrete deck. The crib will be filled with ballast rock and built with 200 mm x 200 mm treated timber.

A new crib structure will be built so the stem wharf (401) can be connected to the ell (402) and tee wharves (404). It will measure approximately 95 m in length and approximately 8 m wide. The new crib structure will use the remaining existing rock mattress to support 400 mm thick new clear stone placed at a 1.5: 1 ratio. The structure will be built using ballast rock and 200 mm x 200 mm treated timber to an elevation of +6.03 m. A new asphalt approach road will lead onto the stem wharf. The last section of approach road will be supported by corerstone to an elevation of approximately +6.03 m.  The approach road and a section of crib #1 of the stem wharf (401) will consist of R-25 road base aggregate at a 1.5: 1 slope starting at El +2.42 m to EL. +6.10 m.  The 300 mm thick reinforced concrete deck will be placed at EL + 6.10 m on top of the crib structure.

The wharf  reconstruction will consist of the use of heavy equipment such as excavators and haul trucks working from the shore as it is being constructed. Alternatively, an access road, temporary work bridge or barge may be used for heavy equipment to conduct work on the stem and ell sections of the wharf.
