Replacement of the septic systems at Sites 3 and 4 at the Falls Lake Cottages and Campground, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax

Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) is proposing a project. CFMWS is proposing the replacement of aging septic systems at Sites 3 and 4 of the Falls Lake Cottages and Campground, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax, due to the end of their service life. The project is intended to maintain reliable wastewater management infrastructure and support the continued operation of the campground facilities. The existing septic tank at Site 3 is located approximately 62 ft (18.9 m) from the water's edge, while the existing septic tanks at Site 4 are located approximately 96 ft (29.3 m) from the water's edge. The project will occur on previously developed land and will involve the replacement of the existing pump chambers at both Sites 3 and 4, while the existing septic tanks will remain in place. In addition, an extra septic chamber will be installed at Site 4 to increase system capacity. Construction activities may include excavation, installation of prefabricated components, trenching for new or existing utilities, and tie-ins to communications, water, sanitary, and electrical infrastructure, as required. Construction is anticipated to occur in late fall 2026. The project will result in an increase in wastewater system capacity through the addition and replacement of septic chambers; however, it will not involve a change in land use, campground footprint, or the overall function of the site.
