Haley Brook Crossing Replacement

The Haley Brook Crossing Replacement project is proposed to address the long-term deterioration of the existing twin culvert crossing located along Shepody Road within Fundy National Park. In the fall of 2024, significant erosion was identified between the two culverts, compromising approximately 40% of their length and creating a void in the road surface measuring approximately 1.2m by 1.0m by 0.6m. Emergency stabilization measures, including the placement of sandbags and riprap, were implemented to reduce erosion and maintain roadway safety. While these temporary measures have proven effective in preventing further deterioration, they do not provide a sustainable long-term solution, and ongoing erosion remains a concern. The proposed project is to replace the existing failing twin culvert crossing with a single open bottom arch culvert that will provide a safe, resilient, and reliable crossing for park operations, visitors, and the public. The replacement structure will restore stream stability and accommodate natural hydrological processes while reducing the risk of future infrastructure failures and associated maintenance requirements.

Latest update

July 24 2026 – Parks Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Parks Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada are inviting public comments until August 23 2026 respecting that determination.
