Roof Replacement for Residence in Gatineau Park

The National Capital Commission (NCC) proposes to replace the deteriorating roof on a residence within Gatineau Park. The existing cedar shingle roof, the underlayment, flashings, and roof drainage would be replaced with a new roof system.

The proposed project would take place on lands owned by the NCC, and may potentially require a permit under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). If Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) determines that a permit is required under SARA, the NCC and ECCC will make a joint determination under the Impact Assessment Act.

Recurrent water leaks have caused damage to the interiors of the asset, and continued water ingress presents a significant risk of further damage and system failures. To avoid this, a replacement of the roof system needs to be done as soon as possible. No vegetation or tree clearing and no excavation would be necessary to undertake the work. The selection of the new roofing system has been made in consultation with building envelope experts.

The purpose of the project would be to ensure the health and safety of users of the building, and the structural integrity of the asset is protected. The work will be carried out in a manner that is consistent with NCC's Heritage Planning Framework and conservation Guidelines.

The construction area would be accessed with machines and equipment, and all work areas would be fenced for safety as required. Construction would be set to begin as soon as possible, upon obtaining the necessary permits and approvals, and would take approximately 8 weeks to complete.
