Work on the Beauharnois hovercraft ramp

The Canadian Coast Guard (hereinafter "CCG") uses a site in Beauharnois for its buoy tending operations. This site is equipped with a hovercraft ramp built in 2017. The existing ramp consists of a flexible concrete mat for the lower part of the ramp and a 200 mm-thick reinforced concrete slab-on-grade for the upper part of the ramp. The length of the articulated concrete mat section is around 30 meters, and that of the slab on grade is also around 30 meters. The width of the ramp is approximately 22 meters.

For safety reasons related to CCG operations, the Ministry wishes to remove the existing flexible concrete mat over a length of approximately 20 meters and replace it with a reinforced concrete slab on grade. The new reinforced concrete slab on grade is to be supported on a granular foundation laid by the contractor and a geotextile will divide the natural soil from the granular cushion. The concrete slab must be reinforced in accordance with the plans and specifications and the slope of the structure must meet the requirements of the plans and specifications. The contractor must plan the installation of a cofferdam required to drain the work area and must comply with the environmental requirements of the certificates of authorization issued for this project. At the end of the work, the contractor must restore the site by covering with vegetation the soil disturbed by machine traffic.
