Restoration of the natural water flow regime of three lakes through the removal of old dredge structures

Today protected, the territory of La Mauricie National Park (LMNP) still bears the marks of past activities related to the exploitation of forests and wildlife. Indeed, the raising of lake levels for log driving, the accumulation of sunken logs and the introduction of exotic species into the lakes for fishing continue to affect the park's ecosystems today. To contribute to the improvement of the ecological integrity of the territory, the LMNP has put in place a program to restore aquatic ecosystems that has been implemented since 2004. The current project focuses on three lakes: Lac Archange, Lac au Bouleau and Lac du Noyer. It aims to re-establish the water regime as close as possible to natural conditions by eliminating the remains of an old log drive structure located at the lake's outlet. This lowering will promote the development of the riparian ecosystem and will uncover natural beaches that have long been submerged. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2024. This project will be evaluated using a basic impact assessment.
