Jacques Cartier Bridge, Sections 1 to 9, Paving and Road Maintenance Works (2027–2029)

The Jacques Cartier Bridge is a vital roadway and active mobility link between Montréal and Longueuil. To ensure user safety, maintain mobility in the metropolitan area, and preserve the durability of the infrastructure, The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) plans to carry out road rehabilitation work across the entire Jacques Cartier Bridge in 2027 and 2028.

The project includes work on the Jacques Cartier Bridge, its approaches, and certain access ramps, covering a total area of around 80,000 m².

Major work planned

  • Milling and paving of sections 2 to 8 of the Jacques Cartier Bridge;
  • Milling and paving of the Longueuil approach (Section 1);
  • Milling and paving of the Montréal approach (Section 9);
  • Deck waterproofing work in Section 5 (Île Sainte-Hélène Pavilion);
  • Other replacement and installation work on the electrotechnical components;
  • Other miscellaneous work (marking, drainage, etc.).

Work schedule

The work will begin in 2027 and is expected to take two (2) work seasons, namely 2027 and 2028.

Traffic management

To limit traffic hindrances, JCCBI will favour carrying out work requiring lane closures during weekend blitzes. This will involve closing certain lanes from Friday evening until Monday morning, while always keeping at least one lane open in each direction.

Nine (9) weekend blitzes are planned over the two (2) work seasons. Other short-term partial closures may also be required.

Environmental protection measures

The project includes the implementation of measures to protect the environment and limit adverse effects potentially caused by the work.
