Consolidation of the Bellerive Recreotourism Hub in the Borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Montreal, Quebec

The Borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve plans to redevelop Bellerive Street between Des Ormeaux and Baldwin Streets (lot 1,710,753) and Pierre-Tétreault Park (lot 1,710,754). The project includes the demineralization of Bellerive Street, the repair of the park's pathways and lighting, and the rehabilitation of the bike path. It also provides for the addition of urban furniture and amenities for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, a green infrastructure will be built to channel stormwater to the St. Lawrence River. Pierre-Tétreault Park is under the management of the Montreal Port Authority.

The Consolidation of the Bellerive Recreotourism Hub project in the Borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Montreal, Quebec is funded by the Active Transportation Fund (ATF) and the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF) managed by Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC).

Lots 1 710 753 (Bellerive Street) and 1 710 754 (Pierre-Tétreault Park) under the management of the Montreal Port Authority have been occupied by the City of Montreal since the 1970s. No works have been done in Pierre-Tétreault Park since that period. Its facilities are outdated and no longer meet the needs of users who wish to enjoy this exceptional park along the St. Lawrence River.

As part of these renovations, a green infrastructure will be built to manage rainwater during heavy rainfall, reducing pressure on the combined sewer system.

In general, the planned work can be summarized as follows:

  • Demolition of the decorative fountain near Notre-Dame Street East;
  • Removal of the roadway and sidewalk on Bellerive Street;
  • Reconstruction of the geometry of Bellerive Street at the intersections of Des Ormeaux and Baldwin Streets;
  • Installation of a stormwater management system crossing Pierre-Tétreault Park;
  • Addition of diverse urban furniture;
  • Development of a gathering area with seating and cooling zone;
  • Refurbishment and expansion of pedestrian pathways;
  • Implementation of a double restroom facility;
  • Tree planting.

The work will be carried out in the summer and fall of 2025.
