Refurbishment of Lachine Canal - Spillway 2

Parks Canada is planning to refurbish the Lachine Canal -Spillway 2. The project primarily involves work on the structure, including removing the knife gate valves; replacing the footbridge; raising the falling crest; demolishing the shotcrete; cleaning and repainting certain components; carrying out soil stabilization by injection; and doing masonry repointing and repairing sections of masonry walls with overlay. Some electrical work will also be needed, such as replacing the lighting fixtures under the footbridge.

The work involves excavating a portion of the sediment at the base of the walls. The excavated material must be put back in place following the work.

The work is planned for the fall, after the navigation season, and will be carried out once the site is dry, following the lowering of the canal for the winter season.
