Reinforcement of the caissons along berths 50 to 52 at the Port of Montreal

The project consists of reinforcing the caisson foundations along berths 50 to 52 at the Port of Montreal. This reinforcement is required to ensure the stability of the caissons in the event that these berths are deepened to 11.7m below chart datum. The work will be carried out mainly underwater at the base of the caissons, close to the riverbed. Various reinforcement methods are planned along the berths depending on the anti-washout structure in place at the base of the caissons.

These project works include modifying and reinforcing the concrete walls in contact with the riverbed, anchoring the head of existing sheet piling to the caissons and building a protective stone berm at the start of one section of the berths. These works will require partial demolition of the existing concrete protective structures and excavation of the riverbed for certain portions at the base of the wharf
