Rampart Creek Culvert Replacement

This project involves the replacement of a pair of corrugated culverts with new concrete box culverts at Rampart Creek on Highway 93N (Icefields Parkway). The new culverts will be in the same location as the old culverts. A temporary detour will be required to divert road traffic around the work site, using a bridge on the upstream side of the highway.
The existing culverts are perched, obstructing fish passage, and badly damaged due to age and debris. They are causing severe roadway erosion, threatening the integrity of the 93N highway. The new culverts will allow improved fish passage, stop roadway erosion, and allow debris to pass through. Rampart Creek flows into the North Saskatchewan River approximately 850m downstream of the culverts. Site isolation will be required. This project will be mitigated through a Basic Impact Assessment.
