ATCO Miette 5L215 Rebuild

ATCO is proposing to replace a 7.6 km section of overhead distribution line in Jasper National Park. The line currently extends from the Fiddle River Ashlar Ridge Lookout to Miette Hot Springs, and will be replaced with an equivalent length of mostly underground distribution line buried 1.2 m deep within the shoulder of the Miette Road. Short overhead segments will be installed where topographical constraints and the road alignment prevent underground installation. The existing line has significant access constraints from rough terrain, the proximity of Sulphur Creek and Fiddle River.  Dense vegetation results in frequent and significant outages. Access limitations extend outage duration.  Moving the line is anticipated to result in ecological gains and improve line reliability, safety and aesthetics. The project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
