Evelyn Creek trail re-adoption into official trail network

The project consists of reconstructing the Evelyn Creek trail to be re-adopted into the official trail network in Jasper National Park. The Evelyn Creek trail is an old road (double tracked) and was trackset for cross-country skiing in the 1990s. It was an official trail until 2010, but was removed from the official trail network in order to reduce maintenance costs. The Evelyn Creek trail is 2.1 km long and approximately 5 m wide and will provide a connection between the Bald Hills trail and the Skyline (See attached). It will be a hiking trail only and no horses and bikes will be permitted. Work will be conducted after the Bird Nesting Period and proposed work includes transport of materials using quad or truck to get to start of trail on Bald Hills fire road, Use of chainsaw and brush cutter, clearing of deadfall, brushing of shrubs that may have grown in on the trail tread as required, rehabilitation of all disturbed areas at trail edges, installation of directional signs at both ends of the trail, and maintenance of trail conditions as necessary. The project footprint corresponds to the width of the existing trail and no new trail clearing is required. This work will be completed by Trail crew and Visitor Experience staff.

Latest update

9 August 2020 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Parks Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
