CP Rail Mountain Subdivision, Mile 3.8 Boulder Creek Bridge Rehab and Bedload Removal

Canadian Pacific (CP) is proposing to conduct bedload removal and bridge repair at Boulder Creek (Mile 3.8 Mountain Subdivision) in Yoho National Park. Natural deposition of bedload material in the vicinity of the rail bridge in spring 2020 has resulted in a meander forming immediately upstream of the bridge, which is now conveying flow directly at and eroding the east abutment. Additionally, deposition of bedload material underneath the rail bridge has resulted in diminished flow capacity and clearance of the bridge. CP is concerned that the eroded abutment and decreased flood capacity may put the bridge at risk during the 2021 spring freshet. This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.

Latest update

March 28, 2021 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Parks Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada are considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
