Parks Canada Agency Two Jack Powerline Rebuild and Vegetation Management

The Two-Jack Powerline Replacement Project will replace the existing Parks Canada powerline that supplies electricity to the Two-Jack Main and Two-Jack Lakeside Campgrounds in Banff National Park. The current powerline was built in the 1950s and 1960s and is nearing the end of its lifespan. Replacing it will improve reliability, reduce maintenance needs, update the system to current standards, and help provide dependable power for park facilities and visitors. The new powerline will be installed along Johnson Lake Road and Lake Minnewanka Scenic Drive, rather than the current route. This new location will improve maintenance access and reduce environmental impacts. The project will remove parts of the existing powerline and restore disturbed areas. Project activities include surveying the route, clearing vegetation where needed, installing new poles and powerlines, constructing underground road crossings, connecting to existing campground infrastructure, removing the old powerline, and restoring disturbed areas. Construction is currently expected to begin in winter 2026-27.
