Crown Mountain Coking Coal Project

Crown Mountain Resources Ltd. is proposing to construct and operate an open-pit metallurgical coal mine in the Elk Valley, approximately 12 kilometres from the District of Sparwood in southeastern British Columbia. As proposed, the production capacity of the project would be approximately 2.0 million tonnes per year, over a mine-life of about 15 years.

August 18, 2026 — The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada decided to continue the assessment of the Crown Mountain Coking Coal Project, which has been undergoing an environmental assessment under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012, as an impact assessment under the Impact Assessment Act.
