Pe-na-koyim Wind Project

The proposed Pe-na-koyim Wind Project is being developed in partnership by the Kainai/Blood Tribe and EDF Renewables Canada Inc. The proposed Project is entirely located on Blood Tribe reserve lands and co-located on the existing Blood Tribe Agricultural Project (BTAP) head lease for agricultural production. The location of the proposed project is approximately 6 km south-west of the residentially occupied areas in the City of Lethbridge, Alberta.

The proposed Project will build and operate a new wind generation facility with a maximum potential permitted capacity of up to 497 megawatts (MW)s, comprising of modern new wind turbine generators (WTG), 34.5-kilovolt (kV) collector system, collection substation which includes two 34.5 kV to 240 kV step-up transformers, meteorological towers, operations and maintenance (O&M) building, and any associated electrical infrastructure. The Project will consist of up to seventy-one wind turbine locations, each with a turbine capacity up to 7.2 MW.

May 26, 2023 - The public period on the project is closed. Indigenous Services Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
