Boundary Fence Upgrades - Kesler Lake and Highway 6 to the Waterton River

Parks Canada proposes two boundary fence improvement components in Waterton Lakes National Park: approximately 1.2 km of new fencing around Kesler Lake and approximately 1.3 km of drill stem fencing from Highway 6 to the Waterton River that will replace the existing cattle exclusion fence. The Kesler Lake component follows a new alignment and will require localized vegetation clearing, though use of existing open areas along the alignment will be prioritized. The drill stem component follows the existing boundary fence alignment and disturbance footprint, and no vegetation clearing is anticipated. This section serves as a pilot installation to evaluate the durability of drill stem as a fence material on the existing boundary fence alignment and its potential effects on wildlife movement. Both fence designs will be bison-resistant yet permeable to other wildlife.
