Notice of intent to make a determination

Canada Border Services Agency intends to carry out a septic tank replacement project at the Del Bonita Port of Entry as the existing septic tank has reached the end of its service life. The Del Bonita Port of Entry POE is located in Del Bonita, Alberta along Alberta Provincial Highway 62 South, and is situated north of the international boundary across from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.  

The surrounding area is characterized by flat, agricultural land, with the Canadian hamlet of Del Bonita located about 4 kilometers north.

The project includes the removal and replacement of an underground sewage septic tank and associated piping.

Activities include the following:

  • Remove and dispose of existing 4500 L concrete Septic Tank;
  •  Work with Consultant to obtain sub-surface soil samples of immediate area of the existing septic tank for testing;
    • Soil samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis of parameters associated with potential septic tank contamination which include:
      • Total Coliforms/E.Coli
      • Ammonia
      • Nitrate
      • Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN)
  • Remove contaminated soil, if required, and dispose of appropriately at a licensed waste disposal facility;
  • Make connections (plumbing) to existing building service connection;
  • Supply and install new manhole and frame and cover;
  • Supply and install 100mm PVC SDR35 Sanitary gravity main and associated insulation;
  • Supply and install concrete 2-cell 3785.41 L/ 1000 gallon septic tank, c/w risers and cover;
  • Supply and install electrical components for submersible lift pump, including all conduits, wiring, controls, floats, piping, supports, and panel box connections as per Electrical drawings;

Supply and install weeping trench materials
