Parks Canada Meadow Restoration Prescribe Fire Plan

Parks Canada Banff Field Unit Fire Department is planning to complete prescribed meadow burns, as part of the Banff Field Unit Fire Management Plan. Each burn area will be situated in meadow complexes dominated by shrub (Salix spp.) and sedge (Carex spp.) vegetation types as well as, open spruce with significant grass fuel loads. Prescribe fire is needed for wildfire containment, habitat enhancement and vegetation maintenance objectives. Prescribe burns will be targeted in spring or fall, when conditions allow.
