Badger Lake Non-Native Trout Removal

The Badger Lake non-native trout removal project aims to help restore the aquatic environment from the legacy of historic trout stocking policies. Badger Lake is located on the upper reaches of the Cascade River Watershed within Banff National Park. The main phases of the project include the movement of gear and personnel to the site (phase 1), eradication of trout from Badger Lake using methods of gill netting and electrofishing (phase 2, 4, and 6), periods of passive winter gill netting (phase 3 and 5), and the removal of equipment from the site (phase 7).
